The University of Tulsa Volleyball team is set to retire former three-time American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American Tyler Henderson's jersey before their match against Alabama on Friday evening at 7 p.m. The three-time Conference USA Player of the Year will join Julia Silva (2005-07) as the only former Golden Hurricane to have their jersey retired.
During her time at Tulsa, Henderson (2009-12) helped lead the Golden Hurricane to three straight C-USA championships while setting numerous program and NCAA records along the way. In 2010, Henderson set the NCAA record for kills in a season with 710, including a NCAA record 45 kills against SMU on Oct. 6, 2010. Averaging 6.23 kills per set, the sophomore led Tulsa to a perfect 20-0 record in conference play before picking up the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory on her way to being named C-USA Player of the Year for the first of three times.
In 2011, Henderson led the Golden Hurricane to their second straight conference title while earning yet another player of the year honor before repeating and guiding Tulsa to their third straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2012.
Henderson owns Tulsa and NCAA records in single match kills (45), kills in a season (710), kills per set in a season (6.23), career kills (2,525), career kills per set (5.22), and owns the TU career record for hitting percentage (.328).
Former TU Head Coach and current Alabama Head Coach Ed Allen, who recruited Henderson and coached her during her freshmen and sophomore seasons along with former assistant and now current TU Head Coach Ryan Wills, will join her on the court during the banner unveiling.
