Tulsa Volleyball Downs Incarnate Word in Season Opener, 3-1

The University of Tulsa defeated Incarnate Word 3-1 in their season opener at the Hurricane Classic on Friday. Tulsa's (1-0) win marks the seventh win for the Golden Hurricane in their last nine season opening contests.
TU took the first set 25-18 after a late run helped the Hurricane pull away from the Cardinals. After a Mariah Pardo service ace to bring the score to 17-16, TU outscored Incarnate Word 8-2 to go up 1-0 in the match.
The Golden Hurricane never trailed in the second set, jumping out to an 11-5 lead after back-to-back kills from senior Jaime Rahilly before going on to take the set 25-19.
Tulsa found themselves behind late in the third set, 20-18 before three straight Incarnate Word errors gave the Hurricane a 21-20 advantage. The Cardinals' Autumn Lockley tied it up with a kill and recorded another in set point as TU dropped the third set 25-23. Lockley finished with a team-high 11 kills.
TU took control of the fourth set with the score set at 11-9. After a Cardinal error, TU rattled off eight straight points to extend their lead to 10 behind three kills from sophomore Rachel Moore. Moore tallied a career-best seven kills in the win while adding seven blocks.
Senior Erica Bohannon had a game-high 13 kills for Tulsa while fellow senior Rebecca Reeve added 11.
Tulsa will continue play at the Hurricane Classic tonight when they face off against Alabama at 7 p.m.
