On Wednesday, the Tulsa women's basketball team went to Three Eyes Park, which is an underground cave system with three natural lakes, stopped to view the Columbus Lighthouse, which was built in honor of the 500th anniversary of Columbus' discovery of America, and went to Columbus House, which was Christopher Columbus' son Diego's home.

After a little sightseeing, TU took on the Dominican National Team.  At halftime, Tulsa and the DNT were tied, 36-36, but the DNT captured an 81-77 win.  Junior guard Erika Wakefield had a team-best 23 points, while junior forward Liesl Spoerl added 13 points.  Junior-transfer guard Ebony Parker recorded 11 points.

Tomorrow the Golden Hurricane will do some community service with Samaritan's Feet before taking on the Dominican National Team again so check back tomorrow for an update!

The Tulsa women's basketball team went to a remote village to help Samaritan's Feet hand out 250 pair of shoes.  The players and staff washed the children's feet and then paired the children up with new shoes.  Everyone was able to interact with the children through either their Spanish speaking skills or through a translator.

At lunch, TU wished manager Darian Dozier a very happy 20th birthday, before preparing for their second game against the Dominican National Team.

In this go-round with the Dominican National Team, Tulsa came out on top, 74-70.  Erika Wakefield once again led TU in scoring with 13 points, followed by Liesl Spoerl with 10 and Kendrian Elliott with nine.

Now we are headed to dinner!  See you tomorrow!

The girls were given an "off" day after playing two games in two days so that meant rest and relaxation for everybody!  Some swam in our fifth-floor infinity pool that overlooked the city or lounged in chairs working on their tans.  Others ventured out to explore the culture and do some shopping in Old Town Santo Dominigo, and some of us stayed around the hotel to shop.  A few of us walked back in a downpour for a mile and got drenched late in the afternoon! With the rains pouring down, most spent the afternoon catching up on some much-needed rest while watching TV.  Some would consider today a waste, but for those of us on the trip that have been going non-stop since our 4 am departure on the 2nd, it was greatly needed and much appreciated!

Tomorrow we return to the grind with a basketball camp for 60 local children, a game against Mauricio Baez and then we travel two hours to our next stop – the Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort in Punta Cana.

Until tomorrow, when we hope this rain lets up!

Saturday/Sunday, August 6-7, 2016
Sorry for not updating, I had some internet issues here in the DR.

On Saturday the team hosted a basketball clinic for about 25 local children, before playing Mauricio Baez, a game Tulsa won 100-53.  Then the team traveled to the Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort in Punta Cana!  The hotel is located right on the beach, has many pools, a golf course, a miniature golf course, shopping (which is always important when traveling with the girls), every kind of sport field/court you could want to play on, lots of restaurants, a spa and so much more!

On Sunday, the team has been released to have fun, travel in groups and not to leave the premises, but we will all meet up again for dinner to wish Head Coach Matilda Mossman a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Enjoy your Sunday, as I know we all will!!

On Sunday, members of the travel party relaxed by the ocean, played some football on the beach, some went snorkeling or kayaking, and shopping, but everyone met for dinner to celebrate Head Coach Matilda Mossman's birthday!!

Monday was the adventurous day, with snorkeling and a boat ride to a sand bar for some, and then off to go zip lining for everyone.  We all took 12 zip lines, with hiking in between, for a fun-filled afternoon.

On Tuesday, several people got up early to watch the sun rise, catch an early breakfast or last-minute beach time before we head for the airport at 11 am! It will be a 12-hour travel day without any delays!

We are leaving here with suntans, sunburns and lots of memories! Thanks again to Helen and Andrew MacKay for their support because without them this wouldn't have been possible, and to Coach Mossman for taking us on this adventure!
