9/8/2016 11:58:00 AM | Volleyball
The University of Tulsa Volleyball team is set to wrap up non-conference tournament road play this weekend with a three-match slate in Jonesboro, Ark. at Arkansas State University.
TU will meet up with UT-Martin for the first time in program history on Friday at 10:30 a.m. before taking on Central Arkansas at 3:30 p.m. The Hurricane lead the all-time series against the Sugar Bears, 6-1. Tulsa will wrap up weekend play against host Arkansas State on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Hurricane and Red Wolves will meet up for the tenth time in program history, as Arkansas State leads the series 4-5 after winning in straight sets last season.
LAST TIME OUT…
Tulsa improved to 5-1 on the season after going 3-0 at the Creeds and Crests Classic last weekend, earning wins over Kennesaw State, Stephen F. Austin, and Texas State. TU racked up 102 digs against Stephen F. Austin on Friday while senior libero Brooke Berryhill compiled 33 digs in the match on her way to being named The American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Berryhill and the Hurricane defense rank sixth nationally in digs per set with 18.92 and lead the AAC in total digs with 454. The libero was named to the Creeds and Crests All-Tournament team along with fellow seniors Erica Bohannon and Rebecca Reeve, who was named tournament MVP after recording double-digit kills and digs in all three matches.
HOT START…
Tulsa matched their best start of 5-1 since the 2014 campaign, when then first-year Head Coach Ryan Wills led his team to wins over Chattanooga, Houston Baptist, Boise State, Louisiana Monroe, and Central Arkansas. A win on Friday against UT-Martin would be the best start for a Hurricane squad under Wills and match the best start since the 2013 season when TU jumped out to a 6-1 record on their way to finishing the season 24-7.
