Men's Tennis Falls on Road to No. 19 Arkansas, 4-3

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Tulsa Men's Tennis team moved to 1-1 on the season as they fell to No. 19 Arkansas on the road Saturday afternoon, 4-3. The Hurricane took the doubles point in the early going and rallied to tie the dual at 2-2, but could not come up with the two remaining points needed in singles play.
 
Jarod Hing and Daniel Santos built a 4-3 lead over the Razorbacks' Johan den Toom and Branch Terrell, but quickly fell behind 4-5 in the match. Hing and Santos rallied from down 40-0 in the fifth set facing match point on their serve before winning the next two sets in a 7-5 win.
 
Or Ram-Harel and Majed Kilani capped off Tulsa point with a 6-4 win over Adam Sanjurjo and Oscar Mesquida.
 
The Hurricane found themselves tied up with Arkansas as Kilani fell to No. 19-ranked Jose Salazar 6-2, 6-0 in the first singles match completed before the Razorbacks took a 2-1 lead after Okkie Kellerman fell to den Toom 7-5, 6-3.
 
Dominic Bechard evened the dual up at 2-2 with a pair of comebacks his straight sets win over Sanjurjo. Bechard fell down 3-0 in the opening set, but rallied in the second half to win the first 6-4. It was a similar start for the sophomore in the second as he was down 4-1 before winning the next six games to take the match.
 
No. 46 Ram-Harel dropped his first set 6-3 to No. 3 Mike Redlicki, but responded strong in the second as the players found themselves tied 5-5 down the stretch. Redlicki would go on to win the final two sets to secure the point and dual win for the Razorbacks.
 
Mitchell Pritchard ended the day with a comeback victory over Mesquida in three sets after falling in the first 6-4. Pritchard held strong throughout the remaining two sets, turning it on down the stretch as he won the final two sets by a score of 6-4.
 
The Hurricane will return home to the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Thursday as they host Illinois State and Arkansas Pine Bluff. Tulsa will begin play against the Redbirds at 1 p.m. before rounding out the day against the Lions at 4 p.m.
