
Tulsa’s Sterling Taplin Named The American Player of the Week

University of Tulsa guard Sterling Taplin was named the American Athletic Conference's Men's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.
Taplin, a 6'1" sophomore, averaged 15.5 points, 5.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.5 rebounds, while shooting 55-percent from the field and 50-percent from three-point range in wins over Memphis and Temple last week.
On Wednesday, Taplin scored a career-high 17 points, while adding six assists and two rebounds in an 81-71 win over Memphis. Against Temple on Saturday, it was Taplin's driving layup with 0:04 left on the clock that was the game-winning basket for the Hurricane in a 70-68 road win. He ended the game with 14 points, a career-high 5 steals, 4 assists and 3 rebounds.
The weekly honor is the first Player of the Week award for Taplin and the Golden Hurricane this season. Taplin has twice previously been named to the weekly honor roll this year.
This week, Junior Etou was named to The American's weekly honor roll as he averaged 19.0 points and 11.0 rebounds in the two games. The 6'8" junior forward tallied career-highs of 23 points and 13 rebounds against Memphis, while adding 15 points and nine boards at Tulane.
