
Women's Tennis Rallies to Tie, Falls Short to #25 Northwestern

DURHAM, N.C. – The University of Tulsa Women's Tennis team rallied down the stretch of singles play against No. 25-ranked Northwestern on Saturday morning at ITA Kick-Off Weekend but eventually fell 4-3 to the Wildcats. The Hurricane moved to 4-1 on the season while Northwestern stands with a 4-0 record.
Rongrong Leenabanchong and Martha Matoula defeated the No. 24-ranked pairing of Lee Or and Erin Larner 6-1 to give each team a doubles win before Mahitha Dadireddy and Marcelina Cichon secured the point with a 6-3 win over Rheeya Doshi and Brooke Rischbieth.
After falling behind 3-1 in the dual, Leenabanchong came through with another win over a ranked opponent for the Hurricane as she bested #104 Maddie Lipp in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
Cichon followed with a straight sets win of her own to knot the dual at 3-3 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Rischbieth. The win marked the eighth straight win for Cichon, who has started 2017 with an 8-0 mark in singles play.
Martina Okalova bounced back to force a third set against Or with a 6-1 second set win before eventually falling in the third.
Tulsa will continue play at ITA Kick-Off Weekend tomorrow at 9 a.m. against either Duke or William & Mary.
