TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa cross country teams are part of a loaded field at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison, Wisc.
The race will serve as the final tune up for both squads before the American Athletic Conference Championships, which will be held on Oct. 28 in Philadelphia. The Golden Hurricane will face a strong field in both championship races, which will begin at 12:20 p.m. with the women's 6K prior to the men's 8K run at 1 p.m.
Twenty of the 35 teams competing in the men's race are ranked in the latest USTFCCCA poll, including four of the top six teams in the nation. Meanwhile, the women's race contains 14 ranked squads out of the 33 competing.
Tulsa is coming off a solid showing at the Cowboy Jamboree on Sept. 30 in Stillwater. The men's team finished fifth and was led by Ben Preisner's fourth-place showing with an 8K time of 24:40.3. It was Preisner's first race of the fall and he helped TU put four runners in the top 30, including Henry Pearce, Adam Roderique and Adam Breaux.
On the women's side, TU placed sixth and was led by Ashley Barnes' 6K run of 21:45.5. Barnes also was the team's top finisher at the Cowboy Preview on Sept. 1 and placed fifth to help the team win the Southern Stampede on Sept. 16. Adrena Mazzei made her fall debut and was the second TU finisher at the Cowboy Jamboree.
