MADISON, Wisc. — The University of Tulsa men's and women's cross country teams finished 30th and 32nd, respectively, against a loaded field at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Thomas Zimmer Cross Country Course.

Of the 35 men's teams in the race, 20 came into the event ranked by the USTFCCCA, while 14 of the 33 women's squads held a ranking. The tough competition served as a final tune up for both teams before the American Athletic Conference Championships, which will be run Oct. 28 in Philadelphia.

Senior Ben Preisner posted the top time for the men's squad at 24:32.1 to place 73rd. The time was eight seconds faster than his run two weeks ago at the Cowboy Jamboree. Freshman Scott Beattie made his collegiate debut with a time of 24:56.2 to finish 128th, while Adam Roderique shaved 15 seconds from his last run at the Cowboy Jamboree to finish 167th at 25:10.8.

Senior Henry Pearce turned in a time of 25:30.3 to place 195th and sophomore Adam Breaux crossed the finish line with a time of 25:53.5 for 212th to round out the scoring for TU. In addition, junior Ellis Coon clocked in at 26:36.1 for 227th and freshman Peter Lynch finished 233rd with a time of 26:57.3.

TU finished ahead of No. 30 Columbia and the only other American Athletic Conference team in the field, UConn.

On the women's side, the team's top four runners finished with the best 6K times of their career.

Sophomore Adrena Mazzei paced the team with a mark of 21:02.6 to place 82nd, while fellow sophomore Ashley Barnes turned in a time of 21:28.5 for 122nd place. Freshman Caitlin Klopfer had a time of 21:34.5 to place 134th and sophomore Reagan Hausmann placed 162nd at 21:53.5.

Five men's runners also competed in the 8K open race prior to the two championship races.
