Etou Named Preseason Second-Team All-Conference on Monday

PHILADELPHIA — Senior forward Junior Etou was named preseason second-team all-conference in a vote by the American Athletic Conference coaches, it was announced on Monday morning at the start of the league's media day.

Etou was the only TU player to start all 32 games last season and he led the squad in scoring and rebounding with 12.6 ppg and 6.7 rpg. He shot 49-percent from the floor, including 42.7-percent from behind the arc, and 76.7-percent at the free-throw line. Etou produced four double-doubles and scored in double-figures 18 times with six games of at least 20 points.

The Republic of Congo native was even better during conference action, where he averaged team-highs of 13.4 ppg and 6.9 rpg. He had some of his best games against The American opponents including a 31-point, 12-rebound effort at ECU and 23 points to go along with a season-high 13 rebounds in a win over Memphis.

Etou is one of four returning starters for the Golden Hurricane this season and TU brings back 72-percent of its offense from a year ago.

Etou, along with head coach Frank Haith and junior guard Sterling Taplin met with national media on Monday as part of the conference's annual media day.

Tulsa will host Northwestern Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30 in the first of two exhibition games before it opens its 107th season of basketball at noon on Friday, Nov. 10 against Lamar at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

Season tickets are available now and head coach Frank Haith has a special offer for new season ticket buyers. Additionally, for every season ticket sold, Haith will donate a season ticket to a local non-profit organization.
