Tulsa Sweeps Doubles Action as It Wins Four Matches on Opening Day of ITA Regionals

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Golden Hurricane men's tennis team was in action Thursday as it took part in day one of the ITA Regionals. Tulsa won half of the singles matches on the day and won both of its doubles matches.
Majed Kilani needed three sets to defeat Minnesota's Justyn Levin. Kilani won the first set, 6-2, before Levin took the second set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (5). Kilani bounced back to win the final set, 6-2. Joshua Goodger took on crosstown rival Scott Hjelm of Oral Roberts. Goodger knocked off Hjelm in two sets, 6-1 and 6-1. Josh Howard-Tripp of Arkansas defeated Jarod Hing in straight sets, 6-4 and 7-6 (1). Conference rival, Andrea Caligiana of Wichita State beat Boriss Kamem in three sets. Caligiana won the first set, 6-4, but Kamdem battled back and took the second set, 6-3. Caligiana was able to win the final set, 6-3.
In doubles action, the tandem of Kilani and Hing won their opening round match against Tom Kruse and Amaury Navette of UMKC, 8-4. The duo of Goodger and Kamdem faced John and Justin Nogalski of Saint Louis. Goodger and Kamdem won the match, 8-4.
Tulsa returns to action for day two of the ITA Regionals on Friday, Oct. 20. Kilani will have a second-round matchup against Lukas Buth of North Dakota. Goodger will face William Grattan-Smith of Nebraska. In doubles action, Goodger and Kamdem will face the No. 2 seed from Arkansas, Jose Salazar and Adam Sanjurjo. Kilani and Hing will have a second-round matchup against Jake Jacoby/Jonas Larsen of Iowa. Times will be determined later.
