LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Tulsa women's tennis team was on the courts Thursday as it participated in the first round of the ITA Regionals hosted by Kansas. In doubles action, TU won three of its four matches. In singles play, the Golden Hurricane won seven of its eight matches.

The duo of Ksenia Laskutova and Martha Matoula took on Joely Lomas and Summer Brills of Drake. Laskutova and Matoula pulled away and won their match, 8-4. The pairing of Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner took care of business as they defeated Elly Hartnet and Carmen Palumbo of North Dakota, 8-3. The tandem of Shura Poppe and Tamara Kupkova posted a dominating performance, as they swept Nebraska's pair Jeannie Lozowski and Katerina Matysova, 8-0. Saint Louis' Ally and Cassie McKenzie knocked off Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg and Alexandrina Chinikova, 8-2.

In singles action, Laskutova knocked off Saint Louis' Ariana Rodriguez in straight sets. Laskutova did not concede a game in entire match, as she won 6-0 and 6-0. Matoula needed just two sets to knock off North Dakota's Carmen Palumbo, 6-2 and 7-5. Okalova defeated UKMC's Yana Grechkina in two sets. In the first set, Okalova did not lose a game, as she won, 6-0. In the second set, Okalova only surrendered one game, on her way to a 6-1 second set victory. Ploner only needed two sets to win her match against Janelle Wilson of Nebraska Omaha. Ploner needed a tiebreak to take the first set 7-6, but took the second set without conceding a game, 6-0. Kupkova won her match against Michelle Lo of Nebraska Omaha, 6-2 and 6-1. Chinikova won the first set 7-6, before she won the second set, 6-4, as she defeated Alexa Brandt in two sets. Poppe lost the first set, 6-3, against Ally McKenzie of Saint Louis, but went on to when the next two sets, 6-3 and 6-2, to take the match in three sets. Aliona Ladutska of UMKC knocked off Van Rensbrug, 6-1 and 6-1.

Tulsa returns to action on Friday, Oct. 19. Laskutova and Matoula will face Anastasia Reimchen and Montana Crawford of Iowa. Okalova and Ploner take on Arkansas' Mia Jurasic and Ana Oparenovic. Poppe and Kupkova battle the No. 2 seed duo from OSU, Vladica Babic and Sofia Blanco. In singles play, No. 4 seed Laskutova will take on Missouri's Serena Nash. Matoula, the No. 14 seed, will battle Elizaveta Petushkova of Drake. Ploner will face Amina Ismail of Missouri. Kupkova will take on the No. 17 seed, Paula Del Cueto Castillo of Nebraska. The No. 15 seed, Okalova will be up against Wichita State's Marta Bellucco. Poppe will face Fatima Bizhukova of Wichita State in the second round. Chinikova faces Kansas State's Rosanna Maffei in the second round. All times will be announced later.
