
Tulsa Sweeps UConn in Three Sets

STORRS, Conn. – Tulsa volleyball (10-12, 4-6 American) was in action on Sunday, as they took to the road for a conference matchup with the UConn Huskies (10-12, 3-6 American). Emily Thorson led the Golden Hurricane with 16 kills, as TU swept the Huskies, 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-18).
With the score tied at 3-3 in the first, the Hurricane went on a 4-0 run to take a 7-3 lead. The Golden Hurricane added another 4-0 run to extend its lead to 14-7. TU went on to win the first set, 25-20. Emily Thorson notched five kills in the first set to lead all attackers. Lindsey Ledyard led TU with six assists, while Mariah Pardo added five assists. Taylor Horsfall scooped up seven digs.
Emily Hubbard led Tulsa with four kills in the second set. Thorson, Callie Cook and Rachel Moore all added three kills each. Horsfall collected a set-high 11 digs. Ledyard assisted on six kills and Pardo added five once again. TU held a 9-8 lead, before it scored five unanswered points to extend its lead to 14-8. The Huskies scored three of the last four points of the set, but the Golden Hurricane won the set, 25-23.
With the third set tied at 7-7, Tulsa went on a 5-0 run to take a 12-7 lead. The Hurricane closed out the final set with three unanswered points to win the set, 25-18. Horsfall tallied a set-high with nine digs. Thorson, Hubbard and Ashton Anderson all had six digs in the set. Thorson provided a set-high eight kills. Ledyard notched eight assists, while Pardo added six.
Kayla Williams led the Huskies with 15 kills. Emma Turner had 23 assists for UConn. Kennedy Arundel had a team-high 18 digs. Genna Florig had a team-high five block assists. As a unit, UConn had 72 digs, 34 kills, 31 assists, and seven total blocks.
The Golden Hurricane totaled 76 digs, 45 kills, 43 assists, and six blocks. Maggie Hembree and Moore each tallied three block assists to lead TU. Thorson posted a match-high 16 kills. Horsfall recorded a match-high 27 digs. Anderson added 15 digs, while Hubbard added 12 digs. Ledyard notched a team-high 20 assists and Pardo chipped in with 16 assists.
With the win, TU improved to 10-12 overall and 4-6 in American Athletic Conference play. The Golden Hurricane returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 26, as it hosts the ECU Pirates. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
