Tulsa Volleyball Falls to Cincinnati in Three Sets

TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa volleyball (11-13, 5-7 American) was back in action Saturday at the Reynolds Center for an American Athletic Conference matchup against the Cincinnati Bearcats (10-14, 8-4 American). Mariah Pardo earned her sixth double-double on the season, with 18 assists and 10 digs, but Cincinnati won the match, 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-20).

The first set was tightly contested, as the score was tied, 16-16. The Bearcats went on a 3-0 run and took a 19-16 lead. The Hurricane pulled within one, 19-18, but Cincinnati scored five unanswered points to extend its lead to 24-18. The Bearcats won the opening set, 25-20. Callie Cook recorded two block assists to lead TU. Mariah Pardo and Ashton Anderson each collected five digs. Pardo and Lindsey Ledyard each had four assists in the first stanza. Cook, along with Emily Thorson, notched three kills each.

Thorson, along with Emily Hubbard and Taylor Horsfall, all scooped up five digs each. Rachel Moore led the TU attack with three kills, while Ebony Carter added two. Cook and Moore each had a block assist in the second frame. Pardo assisted on six kills. With Tulsa up 4-3, the Bearcats scored three consecutive points and took 6-4 lead. Cincinnati went on to win the second set, 25-16.

The Golden Hurricane held a 13-10 lead midway through the third set. The Bearcats went on a 4-0 run to take the lead, 14-13. Cincinnati went on to win the final set, 25-20. Cook, along with Pardo, produced two block assists each to lead the team. Horsfall had a monster third set defensively, as she recorded 16 digs. Pardo assisted on eight kills. Moore led the attack with five kills.

For the match, the Bearcats had 75 digs, 44 kills, 41 assists, and 10 total blocks. Carly Nolan and Erica Kostelac tied for a match-high 13 kills. Jade Tingelhoff had 33 assists, while Abby Williams had 31 digs. Jasmine Jones had six total blocks.

Pardo achieved her sixth double-double on the year and her second consecutive, with 18 assists and 10 digs. Moore led the Tulsa attack with 10 kills. Horsfall recorded 25 digs for the match. Hubbard tallied 13 digs and Thorson finished with 10 digs. Cook notched five block assists for a team-high five total blocks.

With the loss, the Golden Hurricane fell to 11-13 overall and 5-7 in conference play. Tulsa returns to action on Friday, Nov. 3, as it travels to New Orleans, La., for a match against the Tulane Green Wave. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
