Joshua Goodger Advances to Main Draw of the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American

TULSA, Okla. – Freshman Joshua Goodger advanced to the main draw of the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

In the first match of the day, Joshua Goodger battled the No. 58 ranked player by the ITA, Haru Inoue, of Witchita State. Inoue started the first set by breaking Goodger's serve to take a 1-0 lead. The two men went on to win on the serve until the match was 4-3 in favor of Inoue. Goodger fought back and broke Inoue's serve to tie the first set at 4-4. They continued to win games on their serve, which forced a first set tiebreak. Goodger dominated the tiebreak, winning it 6-2. Inoue was first to serve in the second set, but Goodger broke the serve and took a 1-0 lead. After taking the next game on serve, Goodger broke Inoue once again to take a 3-0 lead in the second set. With the second set at 5-1, Goodger broke another serve to win the second set, 6-1.

Goodger's next opponent was Ohio State's John McNally, the No. 2 freshman ranked by the ITA. Goodger started the first set off with a service break and took a 1-0 lead. Goodger and McNally each took games on serve and made the score 5-3, in favor of Goodger. Goodger broke McNally once again and took the first set, 6-3. The second set was a back-and-forth battle, as neither of the two men could break the other serve. The second set would need a tiebreak, with the set tied at 6-6. McNally was able to get a point off of Goodger's serve. Goodger was resilient and gained a point off of McNally's serve to keep the tiebreak tied at 5-5. With the tiebreak tied at 6-6, Goodger took the next two points and won the second set, 7-6 (8-6). 

With the two victories on Tuesday, Goodger has earned a spot into the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championship main draw. The main draw starts on Thursday, Oct. 5. The draw will be announced at a later time.
