Tulsa Earns Two Bronze Medals in the Opening Day of the Head of the Oklahoma Regatta

Tulsa's Collegiate 8+ and Collegiate 4+ boats both earned bronze medals in the first day of racing at the Head of the Oklahoma on the Oklahoma River in Oklahoma City, Okla. TU will return to action tomorrow to conclude the regatta.

"I thought we had a really solid day of racing," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "We started out a little flat in the Eights, but put in a solid third-place time. We are trying out some new things and moving people around so it was good to give our student-athletes a chance to try things they haven't done before. We raced much better in the Fours because they learned from the morning races and came back more aggressively in the afternoon. The student-athletes did well, had a great attitude and are looking forward to finishing well in the small boats tomorrow."

Tulsa's Collegiate 8+ 'A' boat, which consisted of Sam Barber, Sophia Camara, Hannah Vissers, Helen Leigh, Ellie Russell, Julia Dunn, Veronique Ulrich, Amy Pitzel and Julia Herrel, turned in a third-place time of 13:58.63, while the TU 'B' boat was seventh in a field of 18 boats.

In the Collegiate 8+ 500-Meter Night Sprint, the Hurricane 'A' boat was fifth in a time of 1:40.58, while the 'B' boat was seventh.

Barber, Leigh, Russell, Camara and Vissers then raced the Collegiate 4+ 'A' to a third-place finish with a time of 15:29.57. The Golden Hurricane 'B' boat, which featured Lindsey Smith, Herrel, Pitzel, Sydney Pirkle and Julia Dunn, was fifth in a time of 15:39.45, while the 'C' boat finished sixth and the 'D' boat was 12^th in a field of 27 boats.
