TU Men Finish Third at NCAA Midwest Regional Championships on Friday

AMES, Iowa — Senior Henry Pearce earned his second all-region honor with an eighth-place finish to lead The University of Tulsa men's cross country team to a third-place showing at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships on Friday at the ISU Cross Country Course. The TU women's squad finished eighth.
 
Pearce recorded the fastest 10K time of his career at 29:18.43 to pace the Golden Hurricane, which tallied 98 points to finish just behind Iowa State and Oklahoma State. Fellow seniors Ben Preisner (11th; 29:19.89) and Adam Roderique (17th; 29:36.40) also earned all-region honors with top-25 finishes. It was the third all-region honor for Preisner and the second for Roderique.
 
Freshman Scott Beattie (29:44.45) just missed out on all-region honors with a 26th-place finish, while sophomore Adam Breaux (29:58.86) rounded out the scorers for the Hurricane in 36th place. Junior Austin Del Rosso (30:25.39) and freshman Peter Lynch (30:39.59) finished 68th and 88th, respectively.
 
In the women's 6K, sophomore Ashley Barnes led the Golden Hurricane with a 19th-place finish at a time of 20:40 to earn her first all-region honor, while freshman Caitlin Klopfer crossed the final like at 21:02 for 32nd place. Junior Alyssa Bolliger finished 57th (21:19) and senior Nicole Lee (90th; 21:40) and sophomore Avery Culpepper (101st; 21:46) rounded out the top-five for TU.
 
Sophomores Reagan Hausmann (22:00) and Amanda Heard (22:20) finished 127th and 157th, respectively.
 
The Golden Hurricane will await the at-large team selections on Saturday to learn their NCAA Championship fate. The at-large team and individual selections will be announced following the completion of all nine NCAA regional championships.
 
The top 31 teams in the nation will run at the 2017 NCAA Championship on Saturday, Nov. 18, in Louisville, Ky.
