Crystal Polk earned her first career double-double and all five starters scored in double figures to lead Tulsa to a 76-52 win over UMKC on Saturday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. TU moved to 2-2 on the season, while the Kangaroos fell to 0-3 overall.
"We took care of the ball, shot well, shooting 76-percent in a quarter is unheard of, and we shared the ball," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said. "I am disappointed we didn't show more fight with the lead and keep building on it because I didn't feel like we finished out the game the way we wanted to in the fourth quarter. I am ecstatic about the win and excited to have so many people in double figures."
Polk had 12 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, while Dickson led the Golden Hurricane with 15 points. Alexis Gaulden added 13 points, Kendrian Elliott 12 and Tatyana Perez 10. Perez also had a career-best six assists and Polk had a personal-best five steals.
Tulsa had a 39-30 lead in rebounds, a 15-4 advantage in assists, an 8-7 edge in steals and a 4-0 lead in blocks.
Tulsa hit the first 5-of-6 shot attempts for a 10-3 lead at the 7:05 mark, and had a 29-7 advantage at the end of the first frame. The Golden Hurricane was 13-of-17 in the first quarter for 76-percent from the field, including 3-of-3 from three-point range, while UMKC was 3-of-14 for 21-percent.
Both teams shot 40-percent from the field in the second frame, but TU had a 15-12 scoring edge in the 10-miutes and took a 44-19 lead into the break.
With 19 points in the third quarter, UMKC equaled their first half total, while Tulsa added 24 in the period for a 68-38 advantage with one quarter remaining.
UMKC won the fourth quarter, 14-8, as TU struggled to shoot the ball at 15-percent from the field and went 0-for-6 from three-point range.
The Golden Hurricane shot 47-percent from the field, including 35-percent from behind the arc, and 92-percent (12-of-13) from the free throw line, while the Kangaroos shot 38-percent from the field, 8-percent from three-point range and 54-percent from the charity stripe.
Aries Washington led UMKC with 18 points, while Kristen Moore added 17 and India Johnson had 10. Kiana Law pulled down seven rebounds.
Tulsa will return to action on Tuesday, November 21 against Binghamton. Game time is set for 8:30 pm Central in Anchorage, Alaska, at the Great Alaska Shootout.
