DALLAS, Texas – The Golden Hurricane women's tennis team returned to action on Sunday, Nov. 5, as it participated in the final day of the SMU Invite. Tulsa recorded five singles victories and won one doubles match.
In singles play, Ksenia Laskutova faced Magdalena Stencel of Wyoming. Laskutova won the first set, 6-2. After Stencel won the second set, 7-6, Laskutova bounced back and won the final set, 6-3. Martina Okalova defeated Wyoming's Tessa Van der Ploeg in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-4. Martha Matoula knocked of Elisa Koonik of Wyoming in two sets, 7-5 and 6-0. Tamara Kupkova faced Wyoming's Ana Tkachenko. Kupkova won the first set, 6-2, but Tkachenko won the second set, 6-2. Kupkova took the third and final set, 6-2 and won the match. Shura Poppe needed just two sets to beat Central Arkansas' Xylia Chunan Xiang, 6-3 and 7-6. Milka Genkova from Wyoming beat Vera Ploner in two sets, 6-3 and 6-4. Amiru Shimoguchi of Central Arkansas defeated Alexandrina Chinikova, 8-4.
In doubles action, the duo of Ploner and Okalova knocked off the Wichita State pair of Marta Bellucco and Sarvi Saidhujaeva, 6-2. Alexandra Lazarova and Ting-Ya Hsu from Wichita State defeated the tandem of Poppe and Kupkova, 6-3. Wichita State's Gabriela Porubin and Fatima Bizhukova beat the pair of Laskutova and Matoula, 7-5.
The Golden Hurricane concluded its fall schedule this weekend. Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 13, as it travels to crosstown rival, ORU.
