TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa men's and women's cross country teams will run at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships on Friday at the ISU Cross Country Course in Ames, Iowa.

The women's 6K race begins at 10:45 a.m. with the men's 10K run to follow at 11:45 a.m.

Both squads enter the race with a regional ranking of No. 6 by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Coming off their eighth straight conference title, including four consecutive American Athletic Conference crowns, the men's team is looking for a seventh-straight appearance in the NCAA Championships. The top two teams and top four individuals not on an advancing team from each region earn automatic bids to the NCAA Championships, which will take place Nov. 18 in Louisville, Ky.

The Midwest Region consists of Division I schools located in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri and Illinois, across 13 conferences. A total of 35 women's teams and 30 men's teams will run in the meet on Friday.

Senior Ben Preisner recorded his third top-3 finish at the conference meet two weeks ago by placing third with an 8K time of 25:12.5, while Scott Beattie finished fifth at 25:23.9 to earn The American Freshman of the Year award. Henry Pearce (9th) and Adam Roderique (12th) also finished in the top 15 to earn all-conference recognition.

Meanwhile, sophomore Ashley Barnes led the TU women's squad with a ninth-place finish and a time of 26:20.4 in the 6K race to claim her first all-conference honor. Freshman Caitlin Klopfer finished 16th and junior Alyssa Bolliger placed 20th for the Hurricane, which finished in fourth place.

At last season's NCAA Midwest Regional, Luke Traynor won the men's 10K and the men's team earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships with a second-place finish. Preisner, Pearce and Roderique all finished in the top 12 as the Golden Hurricane finished just behind Oklahoma State with 89 points.
