The Tulsa women's basketball team dropped a 67-41 decision to Arkansas on Sunday afternoon at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, Ark. TU fell to 4-6 on the season, while the Razorbacks moved to 7-3 overall.
"I apologize for what we brought to the table," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said. "We weren't very tough and that is three of the last four games that we've scored 44 points or less, which is not good as a Division I basketball team. Arkansas got points off of offensive rebounds and free throw, and they did what they had to do. We couldn't get a combination out there that could be fluid and as a group. We struggled offensively and that showed up on the defensive end as well. We've got to expect and get more effort from our team. Not getting, to the free throw line and not getting rebounds is just a lack of effort."
Crystal Polk led Tulsa with eight points, eight rebounds and two blocks, while Shug Dickson scored seven points, and Erika Wakefield, Kendrian Elliott and Ebony Parker all had six points.
Arkansas had a 61-39 lead in rebounds, a 13-5 advantage in assists and a 7-3 edge in blocks, while Tulsa had a 4-2 lead in steals.
Tulsa trailed Arkansas, 21-12, at the end of the first quarter. Elliott drew two quick fouls in just 1:16 of play in the first frame, while Wakefield and Alexis Gaulden also had two fouls in the first 10 minutes. Dickson joined the crowd on the bench with two fouls at the 8:34 mark of the 2nd quarter.
Parker came in off the bench and hit a three-pointer with 5:34 on the clock in the second quarter for the first three for TU in the contest, as Tulsa started the game 0-6 from behind the arc. Parker, who added a second trey, and Polk both had a team-best six points to go into the locker room down, 35-24. Arkansas had just a 14-12 scoring advantage in the second period.
Tulsa shot 33-percent (5-of-15) in the first frame, just 21-percent in the second quarter (4-of-19), 17-percent in the third (3-of-17) and 22-percent in the fourth (4-of-18) for 23-percent on the game. TU was just 2-of-16 (12-percent) from three-point range and was 70-percent from the charity stripe. The Razorbacks shot 37-percent from the field, 20-percent from behind the arc and 57-percent from the free throw line.
Arkansas outscored Tulsa, 13-7, in the third quarter, and 10-19 in the fourth for the 26-point win.
Arkansas had four players in double figures, including Malica Monk with 14 points, Kiara Williams with 13, and both Jailyn Mason and Devin Cosper with 11. Cosper had a team-high 11 rebounds as well.
Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, December 16 at South Dakota. Game time is set for 1:00 pm in Vermillion, S.D.
