Shug Dickson had her second-straight 20+ scoring game with 24 points and Ebony Parker added a season-high 16 points in a 68-58 win over Arkansas State on Friday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center in Tulsa, Okla.  TU closed out non-conference play with a 6-7 mark on the season, while ASU fell to 5-6 overall.

"Getting this win to end out the non-conference slate gives us so much confidence and positive things to think about so we can enjoy the break," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "I'm so proud of our guys for sticking in there and holding on.  They kept fighting them off."

"When we execute offensively, we can get Shug and Ebony shots, and they can knock down shots, but we had a hard time to get into rhythm.  They got their shots and I'm proud of our offensive effort."

Tyjae' Scales also had a season-high with eight points, while Kendrian Elliott tied her season high of 14 rebounds.

Tulsa had a 40-34 advantage in rebounds, a 9-5 lead in assists, an 8-6 edge in steals and a 5-3 lead in blocks.  TU also had a 34-22 lead in points in the paint and a 22-16 advantage in points off turnovers.

Tulsa jumped out to a 7-1 start at the 8:15 mark, but ASU battled back to take an 8-7 lead with 7:01 on the clock.  The two teams traded leads twice more, but it was the Red Wolves who earned a 21-19 advantage at the end of the first frame.

Tulsa tied it up at 28-all at the 4:17 mark of the second quarter, the first tied score of the contest.  The score was tied again at 32-32 with 1:55 left in the first half, but a three-point basket by Parker and a layup by Scales gave the Golden Hurricane a 37-32 lead at the break.

The Red Wolves outscored TU, 10-5, to tie the game at 42-all with 4:44 left to play in the third quarter, but Tulsa finished out the frame with a 50-47 lead.

The Hurricane climbed to a seven-point lead, 57-50, at the 5:31 mark of the fourth quarter and then earned a game-best 12-point advantage, 66-54, with 1:36 left to play and earned the 10-point victory.

Tulsa shot 44-percent from the field, including 29-percent from three-point range, and 81-percent from the free throw line, while Arkansas State shot 33-percent from the field, 40-percent from behind the arc and 76-percent from the charity stripe.

ASU was led by Jada Ford with 17 points, while Akasha Westbrook added 11.  Westbrook, Lauren Bradshaw and Morgan Wallace all pulled down five rebounds for the Red Wolves.

Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, December 30 against Wichita State in the American Athletic Conference opener.  Game time is set for 2:00 pm at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kan.
