Tulsa Track Athletes Claim First-Place Finishes at Iowa State Classic and Gorilla Classic

The Tulsa track & field teams took a split squad this weekend to the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa and the 2nd Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kansas. Competition began on Friday at both meets and will conclude on Saturday.
At the Iowa State Classic, Tulsa senior Marc Scott won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 7:47.57, while on the women's side sophomore Avery Culpepper clocked a time of 9:54.17 in the 3,000 meters to finish in second place in a field of 20 runners.
Freshman Aaliyah Birmingham claimed two top-3 performances with a second place finish in the women's 60-meter dash, clocking a time of 7.50. She finished in third-place in the 200m dash with a time of 24.24.
The weight throw was the only competition that Tulsa athletes participated in on Friday at the Gorilla Classic. Freshman Aleks Rapp won the men's weight throw with a best of 68-05.00 (20.85m). Sophomore Baylor Reese finished in third place in the women's weight throw with a best of 45-11.25 (14.00m)
