BOCA RATON, Fla. – The University of Tulsa Softball team won a pair of games on Saturday morning at the Strike-Out Cancer Tournament, defeating Syracuse 3-2 in the early game before downing Savannah State 4-1 to move to 4-5 on the season.

The Hurricane put early pressure on Syracuse (5-3 overall) throughout the first three innings, loading the bases in the first inning before putting two more runners on in the second.

Tulsa capitalized with two outs in the third frame as Morgan Neal drove in Maddie Withee for the first run of the game on a RBI single to RF. Haley Meinen followed with a RBI of her own, sending one up the middle to score Neal and put TU ahead 2-0.

Back-to-back hits to open the sixth by Rylie Spell and Shelby Estocado led to Tulsa's third and final run of the game. Julia Hollingsworth sent a RBI single to right-center field to drive home Estocado. Spell, Hollingsworth, and Meinen each had two hits for the Hurricane while the latter two each picked up one RBI.

Emily Watson tossed 6.2 innings of work as she improved to 3-2 on the season, striking out a tied for season-high seven batters before being replaced with two outs in the bottom of the seventh by Lexi Blevins after Syracuse pulled within one on a solo home run. Blevins settled in after a wild pitch moved an Orange runner into scoring position, sending the batter down swinging while picking up her first career save.

Meinen received the nod in the circle in the second game of the day against Savannah State (0-10 overall) and delivered 4.2 innings of scoreless work in 6.1 frames while surrendering zero free passes.

Tulsa put two on the board in the fourth inning as the frame began with consecutive base knocks from Maggie Withee and Hollingsworth. Neal walked with the bases loaded to bring home a run before Hollingsworth crossed the plate on a wild pitch to put the Hurricane ahead 2-0.

Mikayla Whitten led-off the bottom of the fifth with her first collegiate hit before being moved over to third on a double by Estocado on one of her two hits in game two. Maggie Withee drove in Whitten on a groundout to second base prior to Estocado crossing on Hollingsworth's at-bat as Tulsa grabbed a 4-1 advantage.

Blevins replaced Meinen in the circle in the top of the seventh after Savannah State moved two runners into scoring position with the game-tying run at the plate. The junior struck out the first batter she faced and got the next to pop-out to Neal at second base to pick up her second save of the day and of her career.

Tulsa will round out play at the Strike-Out Cancer Tournament tomorrow morning as they take on St. John's at 8 a.m.
