BOCA RATON, Fla. – The University of Tulsa Softball team rounded out weekend play at the FAU Strike-Out Cancer Tournament with a 3-2 record as they fell to St. Johns 4-1 in the final game of the weekend to move to 4-6 on the year.
St. John's (4-5 overall) scored three in the second inning led by a Lauren Zick two RBI single before another run crossed to put the Red Storm ahead 3-0.
Shelby Estocado saved a run for the first out of the inning, tossing out the runner heading home to hold St. John's at three runs. Estocado impacted the game at the plate in the top of the fourth inning with a solo home run to left field, her third of the year to put Tulsa within two at 3-1.
Tulsa kept the pressure on the Red Storm in the fifth inning as Shannon Hughes and Tori Stafford grabbed consecutive base knocks with two outs before a Rylie Spell walk loaded the bases. An Estocado fly-out to center field would end the inning.
The Hurricane will return to the field on Friday when they travel to Beaumont, Texas for the Cardinal Classic. Tulsa opens weekend play against Alabama A&M at 10 a.m.
