Tulsa’s Martins Igbanu Named The American Rookie of the Week

University of Tulsa true freshman forward Martins Igbanu was named the American Athletic Conference's Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.

In two wins over USF and East Carolina, Igbanu averaged 12.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in 25.0 minutes of play. He shot .538 from the field and 50-percent from three-point range in the two games.

In an 82-68 victory over USF, Igbanu totaled 14 points and 7 rebounds, while shooting 66.7 percent from the field. On Sunday, he tallied 10 points and 8 rebounds, while also adding 2 steals in a 74-66 win over East Carolina.

It's the first Rookie of the Week award for a Hurricane player this season.

Sophomore guard Sterling Taplin was named to The American's weekly honor roll as he averaged 11.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists in Tulsa's two wins. He totaled 10 points 6 rebounds and 5 assists vs. USF, while scoring 13 points and dishing out a career-high 9 assists and adding 6 rebounds against East Carolina. It's the third time this year that Taplin has been named to the weekly honor roll, while also earning the player of the week award once.
