Tulsa Announces Spring Football Dates

With national signing day in the books, The University of Tulsa is gearing up for spring football as the dates for Spring Practice 2017 were announced today. Spring Practice 2017 will kick-off on the last day of February and continue through the first week of April.

Head Coach Philip Montgomery will lead his troops into 2017 after having posted a 10-3 season in 2016 with a win in the Miami Beach Bowl. Tulsa will go into spring practice with 50 returning letterwinners and 13 returning starters, as well as an additional nine more players who saw starting time last year

The Golden Hurricane takes the practice field on Tuesday, February 28, for the first of 15 spring practice dates. Spring Drills will conclude with the Annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 8.

"We're excited to get back on the field with our players," said Montgomery. "It's not that long ago since we were on the field playing in the Miami Beach Bowl. We're looking to continue with the success we had last season and elevate our program even more."

The first five days of 15 spring practice dates will take place before spring break for Tulsa. The normal weekly schedule will have Tulsa practicing on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. A Thursday, March 9 practice will be the culmination of the first five practice sessions before taking off for Spring Break (March 11-19).

Following Spring Break, Tulsa will return to the practice field on Tuesday, March 21, and practice the next three weeks before completing the spring session with the Spring Game on Saturday, April 8. The Spring Game kickoff time will be announced at a later date.

"Obviously, we have some holes to fill with graduating players, specifically at quarterback and receiver on offense. Defensively, we'll have to fill the middle two spots on the defensive line as well as finding replacements for two linebackers and one safety," said Montgomery. "We feel good about a number of the young players vying for those positions which will make for some really solid competition this spring."
