Varsity 8+ and 2nd Varsity 4+ Earn Second Place Marks at Oak Ridge Invitational

Tulsa's Varsity 8+ and 2^nd Varsity 4+ both earned second place marks in the final day of competition at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational on Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

"Today was just a continuation of yesterday with trying new lineups and I think the Varsity 8+ really took it on and put together a solid race to come out ahead of Notre Dame, which is the first time I believe we've done that in the Eight in school history," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "It was great to be in the same space and show we have the ability to race with the teams in this group. Overall I'm pleased with the first regatta and how the Varsity 8+, especially with it being freshman heavy, handled the racing with great skill. This was a great start to our season."

Jennifer Casson, Lauren Vander Hoeven, Hannah Vissers, Helen Leigh, Colleen Giesbrecht, Mikala Burns, Sydney Pirkle, Sophia Camara and Marcia Vidaurri raced the Eight to a time of 6:27.09, two seconds behind Louisville, but two seconds ahead of Notre Dame and 13 seconds faster that West Virginia.

In the 2^nd Varsity 4+, Abigail Elggren, Lindsay Crute, Emily Truss, Nichole Backus and Katie Shin turned in a time of 7:42.92 to trail Louisville, but top West Virginia.

The Golden Hurricane's 2^nd Varsity 8+ and 3^rd Varsity 8+ both captured third-place marks with times of 6:45.67 and 7:08.79, respectively, in their races, while the Varsity 4+ also posted a third-place finish with a time of 7:27.16.
