TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa Softball team split a pair of games to round out play at the Tulsa Invitational on Sunday afternoon, blanking Texas Tech 7-0 in the first game before falling to Wichita State in the second, 5-3. The Golden Hurricane (14-10 Overall) went 3-1 over the weekend while shutting out two opponents and recording double-digit hits in two contests.

Tulsa's second straight shutout of the weekend came in the opening game of the day against Texas Tech (13-11 Overall) as Emily Watson tossed a complete game while striking out 12 to earn her 10th win. During her three starts this week, Watson allowed just one run while striking out 30 batters to give her 115 on the year.

The Hurricane offense came alive with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the first runs on the board as Maddie Withee came through with an RBI double to bring in Morgan Neal. Tori Stafford followed with her first home run of the season after a Shelby Estocado single, a three-run shot over the wall in left center field to put TU ahead 4-0.

Tulsa added three more in the following inning, beginning with a Maggie Withee two-RBI triple to the gap in right center field, the fifth of her career. Maddie Withee hit her second straight RBI double two batters later to bring in the seventh Tulsa score of the contest.

TU finished with a tied for season-high 11 hits in the opening game of the day while four Hurricane hitters had multi-hit performances.

Both teams put a run on the board in the opening frame in game two against Wichita State (12-9 Overall) as the Shockers opened the game with a home run to go up 1-0.

Maddie Withee's streak of RBI doubles moved to three as she recorded her third straight over the doubleheader to bring in Neal from third base to tie at 1-1.

Stafford came through with her second home run of the doubleheader in the fourth inning to put Tulsa ahead 3-1, a two-run homer to left field that scored Maddie Withee. Stafford went 7-9 at the plate in four games this weekend for a .778 average while driving in five runs with a slugging percentage of 1.444.

Wichita State cut away at Tulsa's lead in the top half of the fifth with a run before taking advantage of a pair of walks in the sixth to score three and take a 5-3 lead.

The Hurricane applied pressure in the bottom half of the seventh inning, eventually loading the bases after a single and a pair of walks that included a 12 pitch at-bat by Maddie Withee with two outs before a game-ending strikeout.
