Hurricane Track and Field Takes 10 First Place Finishes at Tulsa Duels

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa Track and Field team took 10 first-place finishes as they opened up the outdoor season at the Tulsa Duels at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium Saturday afternoon with the women's team winning seven events on the day.
The Tulsa women swept the two relays on the afternoon, taking first place in both the 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relay. Aaliyah Birmingham, Breonna Hall, Candalyn Lyons, and Quin Patterson posted a time of 46.71 in the 4x100 meter relay to take first place while Lyons and Patterson teamed up with Cydney Fogle and Kiara Jones for a first-place run of 3:50.28.
Birmingham took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.42 while Quin Patterson placed fourth with a run of 25.49 seconds.
Jones first top finish of the day game in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.06 as the Hurricane took the top two spots in the event with Fogle finishing with a runner-up time of 1:03.57.
In addition to her first-place finishes in both of the relays, Lyons added a win in the 100-meter dash with a run of 11.90.
Adrena Mazzei and Caitlin Klopfer picked up wins in the 800-meter and 3,000-meter, finishing with runs of 2:13.23 and 10:13.19 respectively. Amanda Heard posted a time of 10:41.63 in her third-place run in the 3,000.
In the women's field events, Cecilya Johnson finished runner-up in the discus throw with a toss of 46.30 meters and third in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.54 while Baylor Reese placed fourth and third in the events.
On the men's side, Bailey Stewart just missed out on a personal best while taking first place in the 400-meters, posting a time of 47.79 in the event.
Benjamin Preisner and Austin Del Rosso ran first and second in the 2,000-meter steeplechase to open up the men's running events with times of 5:47.83 and 5:52.85 respectively.
Ellis Coon picked up the final first-place finish for the Hurricane men in the 3,000-meter run, posting a time of 8:47.54 while teammate Steven Salvano ran second with a run of 9:06.94.
Tulsa will return to the track for the Arkansas Invitational on Friday, March 24 in Fayetteville, Ark.
