Tulsa Rowing Earns Three Wins Over Kansas State on Saturday

The Tulsa rowing team earned a win in the Varsity 8+, Varsity 4+ and 2^nd Varsity 4+ over Kansas State on Saturday at the J. Bird Sr. Shell Nest in Catoosa, Okla. The Wildcats picked up top marks in the 2^nd and 3^rd Varsity 8+ boats.

"We had a really solid day of racing today," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "I really appreciate all the hard work the team has put in this week and I think we rebounded well and put together very good races against a very good Kansas State team. We always appreciate them coming down as they are powerful, well coached and well supported."

Sam Barber, Jennifer Casson, Lauren Vander Hoeven, Hannah Vissers, Helen Leigh, Colleen Giesbrecht, Maria Gearing, Sydney Pirkle and Sophia Camara raced the Varsity 8+ to a time of 6:41.13, four seconds faster than KSU's time of 6:45.12.

In the Varsity 4+, Marcia Vidaurri, Paige Hallam, Madeline Oleksiak, Julia Herrell and Amy Pitzel turned in a time of 7:40.62 for an 11-second lead over Kansas State's 7:51.50 time, while the Golden Hurricane 2^nd Varsity 4+ was three seconds ahead of the Wildcats.

"All three boats that won executed their race plan well," Harris added. "The Varsity 8+ was challenged hard, but were able to take advantage of their training and stay focused on staying ahead of K-State. We will have our hands full when we see them again in two weeks in Sarasota."

K-State earned wins in both the 2^nd Varsity 8+ and 3^rd Varsity 8+ boats.

TU will return to action at the FIRA Championships on March 31 and April 1 in Sarasota, Fla.
