Emily Watson has been named The American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season and second straight week as she posted a 4-0 record in the circle for a Hurricane (20-10 Overall) squad that went 6-0 over the week with five wins at the Rock Chalk Challenge.
Watson (Edmond, Okla.) put together 24 innings of scoreless pitching during the week, extending her stream to 38 straight innings before it ended against Omaha on Sunday on a day where she struck out 14 batters. The junior threw three shutouts, including two over ranked opponents in No. 25-ranked Arkansas and No. 12-ranked LSU that gave her three shutouts over ranked competition this season. Against Arkansas, Watson tossed 4.1 innings of perfect softball while striking out eight. Ranking in the top-10 of the NCAA in strikeouts, Watson picked up 42 strikeouts while walking just two batters.
Watson and the Hurricane will begin American Athletic Conference play this weekend when they travel to Tampa, Fla. for a three-game series against USF. The series is set to begin on Friday, March 25 at 3 p.m.
