
Tulsa Picks Up Seventh Straight with a 5-0 Win Over USF in Conference Opener

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tulsa Softball team picked up their seventh straight win as they shutout USF 5-0 in the American Athletic Conference season opener at the USF Softball Stadium on Friday afternoon. The Hurricane (21-10 Overall, 1-0 The American) had seven different hitters record a base-hit while Tori Stafford put together the lone multi-hit performance in the win.
Emily Watson moved to 15-3 on the season with her seventh straight win in the circle in as many starts, striking out 12 batters for her eighth double-digit strikeout performance while walking just one USF (20-16 Overall, 0-1 The American) batter. Watson and the Tulsa defense retired the first 13 batters of the game before the junior's no-hit bid was broken up in the bottom of the fifth after back-to-back singles for the Bulls' only hits of the afternoon.
The Hurricane put the first run of the day on the board in the top of the fourth inning after Shelby Estocado moved both Maddie Withee and Stafford into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt with no outs before an eventual two-out RBI single from Mikayla Whitten to TU up 1-0.
Tulsa followed in the fifth inning with four runs, beginning with a Morgan Neal sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Julia Hollingsworth. Estocado followed with a RBI double to LF field for the second run of the inning and third of the game. Shannon Hughes drove in the fifth and final run on a RBI single to shortstop to bring in Estocado for the final score of 5-0.
Tulsa's three-game series with the Bulls continues tomorrow afternoon with first pitch of game two scheduled for 3 p.m.
