
Hurricane Lead Off Tulsa Invitational with 3-1 Win Over Montana

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa Softball team defeated Montana 3-1 to open up the Tulsa Invitational on Thursday evening at Collins Family Softball Complex. The Hurricane (12-9 overall) scored all three of their runs in the opening inning while surrendering no earned runs to the Grizzlies (7-13 overall) in the contest.
Morgan Neal drove in the first run of the night for Tulsa as she sent a hit up the middle to plate Julia Hollingsworth from second base for her 12th RBI of the year. Maddie Withee followed with a triple to right center field to put Tulsa ahead 2-0, her first triple of the season and fifth of her career.
Shannon Hughes added the third and final Tulsa run of the contest on a sacrifice fly that plated Maddie Withee from third base.
Tori Stafford picked up two of Tulsa's four hits on a two of two showing at the plate with singles in the first and fourth innings to raise her season average to .311.
The Hurricane had three pitchers step into the circle as Haley Meinen started the game off by tossing three innings of work and walking no batters while holding the Grizzlies to just two hits before Madison Higley entered for an inning.
Montana threatened in the fourth inning after a hit-by-pitch and walk put two runners on that eventually moved into scoring position on a passed ball before scoring an unearned run on a sacrifice fly for their lone score of the night.
Lexi Blevins picked up her second win of the season in relief as she struck out three in three innings of work.
The Hurricane will continue play at the Tulsa Invitational tomorrow evening at 5 p.m. against No. 23-ranked California at Collins Family Softball Complex.
