Tulsa Splits Pair to Take Series Against Memphis, Wins Game Three 2-1

TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa Softball team split a pair of games in a doubleheader against Memphis on Saturday afternoon at the Collins Family Softball Complex. After dropping the opening game of the day 4-0, Tulsa (25-11 Overall, 5-1 The American) responded with a series-clinching 2-1 win in game three behind a Shelby Estocado solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.
Memphis (20-16 Overall, 3-3 The American) out-hit the Hurricane 12 to three in the opening game of the doubleheader en route to a 4-0 win. The Tigers scored their first run of the series in the top of the third inning after a leadoff triple helped them build a 1-0 lead. Memphis went on to load the bases in the fifth after three consecutive singles to open the frame, plating a run on a Lexi Blevins wild pitch prior to a two-RBI single.
Blevins pitched 5.0 innings in the loss while striking out three batters as she moved to 4-7 on the season. Freshman Madison Higley threw two in relief, allowing a single hit while surrendering no free passes.
Tulsa opened up game two by stringing together three hits in the first inning to put a run on the board and go ahead 1-0. Julia Hollingsworth doubled before swiping third base on her team-leading 14th stolen base of the season to move further into scoring position with no outs. Maggie Withee tallied her first of two hits in the final game of the day, an infield single that scored Hollingsworth.
Memphis tied the game up at 1-1 in their next at-bat after Tulsa went up on a Hannah Harrell single.
Estocado's eventual game-winning home run in the fourth inning moved the junior into a tie with Skylar Swanson for sixth all-time on Tulsa's career home run list with 22 as she picked up her team-leading fifth of the season.
Emily Watson picked up the win in game two of the doubleheader, tossing the complete 7.0 innings while striking out 10 to give her 21 in the series. The junior moved to 18-3 on the season with her 10th consecutive wins in as many starts, passing the 200 strikeout mark as she currently sits with 202 on the year.
The Hurricane will take a break from American Athletic Conference play as they are set to play a pair of mid-week contests, beginning with a match-up against Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla. on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
