TULSA, Okla. – Junior pitcher Emily Watson was named The American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the fifth time this season after tying a program-record for strikeouts in a single game with 17 in a 3-2 win over Oklahoma State on Wednesday evening to help the Hurricane (26-12 Overall, 5-1 The American) to a mid-week split.

Watson (Edmond, Okla.) tied her career-high in strikeouts in a game with 17 and has two of the four recorded 17 strikeout games in program history. The performance marked the 12th game this season that the junior has reached double-digit strikeouts while giving her six consecutive outings with over 10 strikeouts. After surrendering the lone two runs of the ballgame to the Cowgirls, Watson responded by retiring the next 13 batters en route to her 19th win in the circle this season.

On the season, Watson has posted a 1.23 ERA through 22 appearances with a 19-3 record while striking out 219 batters in 142.0 innings pitched. The junior is just 38 strikeouts away from putting together the third-most strikeouts in a season by a TU pitcher as Aimee Creger holds all top-three season marks.

The Hurricane will return to the field on Tuesday for a rematch against Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. at 6 p.m. tomorrow before returning home to host Houston for a three-game conference series beginning on Thursday at 5 p.m.
