Tulsa, Okla. –– Tulsa freshman Greta Bruner sits in first-place as the Golden Hurricane team will enter Tuesday's final round at the Dale McNamara Invitational in second place.
Tulsa opened the day with a score of 303 through the first 18 holes, and came back in the afternoon with a season-best round of 288 to finish the first day at the par-70, 6,112-yard Tulsa Country Club course in second place.
Bruner used rounds of 71 and 69 to finish one stroke ahead of second-place Ariadna Fonseca of Kansas on Monday in temperatures that reached 77-degrees on Monday afternoon. Bruner opened the first 18 holes with 15 holes of even-par golf, while birdying the par-3 14th hole with bogeys on par-4 holes 7 and 12.
New Mexico State ended Monday's action in first place with a 30-over par 290 score after turning in identical rounds of 295, just one stroke ahead of the Golden Hurricane.
"We played very solid today. We started out a little bit sketchy, but they came back and played well. It was really tough out there," said Klein-Gille. "The course played extremely difficult today. It played long and the wind was a different direction than we're normally used to. I just told them, that it's playing tough for everyone, so let's just settle down and make some pars and let the birdies happen, and they did and played really well."
Teeing off from hole #10 for the afternoon round, Bruner birdied three of her first seven holes and ended her first nine holes at two-under par. She went to three-under par after birdying the par-4 first hole, her 10th hole of the day, but a double-bogey at the par-5 third put her back to one-under par, where she finished the day.
"Greta was solid today. She's put herself in contention a couple times this year so it will be fun to watch her play the last day," added Klein-Gille.
Sophomore Anneke Strobach also turned in a second round score of 69 for the Hurricane, and sits in a sixth-place tie with a six-over par score of 146. After starting the second round with a bogey on the par-4 10th hole, Strobach turned in back-to-back birdies and went into her final nine holes one-under par. She bogeyed the par-5 third, birdied the par-4 fourth hole and shot even-par the rest of the way to complete her one-under round.
"Anneka turned in a solid round as well. She's been kind of the same way, where she's had some good under-par rounds this year, especially lately," said Klein-Gille.
Olivia Jackson turned in a solid score of 152 for the day after she shot six strokes better in the second round with a three-over par 73, her best round of the season. Jackson opened up her day with a first-round 79.
Tulsa's lone senior Nadia Majidizadeh turned in a score of 153, shooting rounds of 76 and 77, to sit in 23rd place entering final round action Tuesday. Nicole Marquardt finished the day in 47th place with a 165 total score.
Tulsa's Johanna Samuelsson, Taylor Dobson and Mackenzie Medders are playing as individuals at #TheDaleMac. Samuelsson and Dobson are tied for 30th place with scores of 156, while Medders is in 42nd place after a first day score of 161.
The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with the final 18 holes. Teams will tee-off beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Tees #1 and #10.
