Tulsa Women Golfers, Freshman Greta Bruner Win #TheDaleMac Championship

Tulsa freshman Greta Bruner won individual medalist honors, while leading the Golden Hurricane to the team championship Tuesday at the Dale McNamara Invitational at the par-70 Tulsa Country Club Course.
Bruner turned in a final round 71 for a score of one-over par 211 and finished with a six-stroke victory over second-place Camille Orito of New Mexico State. The Hurricane team, trailing the Aggies of New Mexico State after Monday's two rounds, overcame the one-stroke deficit for a five-stroke victory.
The win for Bruner was the first tournament victory for a Tulsa freshman since October 2010 when Kristina Merkle won the Johnnie Imes Invitational. It was the first victory overall for a Tulsa golfer since Merkle won the 2013 Notre Dame Clover Cup and was the first team tournament title since the 2013 UAB Fall Beach Blast.
"It feels good," said Head Coach Emilee Klein-Gille after the victory. "I knew the girls were good enough to win. I knew they had the heart and could win, but it was just a matter of finally making it happen. The last couple tournaments we put ourselves in contention, and I'm glad for that because it gave us a chance to know what it felt like to be in contention. At the last tournament, we were in a position to win, but didn't play well the final round. I think that helped us so much for this round because we were ready. I'm proud of them."
Bruner began the day with a birdie on the par-4 first hole, but finished the front nine two-over par after a double bogey and bogey. The freshman began the back nine as she started the front side with a birdie putt. Bruner also birdied holes 12 and 17 and finished the back-side with a one-under 34 to end the day with her one-over par 71.
"Greta is very fiery, but has a really good head on her shoulders for the golf course. She doesn't show a ton of emotion. She was nervous today, but she really held it together well," said Klein-Gille.
Tulsa senior Nadia Majidizadeh, from Tulsa's Union High school, turned in the best round of the day among the 54 participants with a one-under par 69. She knocked in four birdie putts on the day, coming at the par-4 fourth and seventh holes on the front nine and the par-5 16th and par-3 17th to finish out her round.
"It was awesome for Nadia today. She struggled the first two rounds, and she was pretty disappointed because it was a home tournament. She's been such a superstar for us. It was so good for her to finish on that note. I'm so happy she can be part of a win as a senior playing in her last official regular season tournament," said Klein-Gille.
Sophomores Anneke Strobach and Olivia Jackson also finished among the top-20 individuals. Strobach finished in 13th place with a 54-hole total of 225 after a score of 79 today, while Jackson turned in a solid 75 and finished in 18th place overall with a 227 total.
Junior Nicole Marquardt finished in 41st place with a score of 239.
Sophomore Johanna Samuelsson had the best score among the three Tulsa players participating as individuals. Samuelsson carded a final round 76 to finish with a score of 232 for 27th place, while freshman Taylor Dobson, from Broken Arrow High School, turned in a final round 78 for a score of 234 and 33rd place. Mackenzie Medders, from Jenks High School, finished the tournament in 49th place with a total score of 244.
Tulsa will be in action beginning this Sunday at the American Athletic Conference Championships, April 16-18, at the Hammock Beach – Conservatory Course.
