TULSA, Okla. – Junior pitcher Emily Watson received her sixth American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honor after tossing 13.2 innings while giving up just one run last week in appearances at Arkansas and against Houston.
Watson (Edmond, Okla.) struck out a new program-best 21 batters in a 10-inning win over Houston in game one that was suspended in the top of the ninth inning on Thursday evening before concluding on Friday afternoon. The junior's mark of 21 strikeouts in a single game is the second most in Division I this season. Watson added two saves to her 1-0 record over the week in games two and three against the Cougars, including a game-ending double play ball with the bases loaded in Saturday's win.
On the season, Watson has a 20-3 record in the circle with a 1.17 ERA while ranking third in all of the NCAA with 244 strikeouts. During her first save bid on Friday, Watson moved into fifth on Tulsa's all-time career strikeouts list with 493, passing Maren Genow's (2003-06) mark of 492.
The Hurricane will return to the diamond on Wednesday for a match-up against in-state opponent Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. at the Collins Family Softball Complex.
