Oklahoma State Assistant Coach Danny Henderson has joined The University of Tulsa basketball coaching staff, Golden Hurricane Head Coach Frank Haith announced Monday night.

At OSU, Henderson helped the Cowboys post an overall 20-13 record and reach the NCAA Tournament. During his three-year tenure at Boise State, he helped the Broncos win the 2014-15 Mountain West Conference title and at least 20 games each season. Henderson was responsible for defensive game plans and worked individually with the Boise State post players.

"We're extremely excited to have such an established coach as Danny Henderson join our coaching staff at Tulsa," said Haith. "He is an outstanding Xs and Os coach, who has developed an outstanding reputation as a defensive tactician. Danny had incredible success as a head coach on the prep level in Texas before moving to the college ranks, and certainly the relationships that he developed over the years in the state will only add to our recruiting efforts in Texas."

Before making the move to the collegiate ranks in 2013, Henderson won over 700 games and four state titles as a high school coach in Texas. Two of his teams were named the MaxPreps High School National Champions.

"I'm thrilled that we've been able to add such a great coach and an outstanding family man to help build upon the success of Tulsa basketball. We look forward to Danny, Anna and their daughters, Maddie and Sophie, joining our TU family, " added Haith.

"I am very thrilled and honored to work for Coach Haith and represent The University of Tulsa. Coach Haith's coaching record and reputation speak for themselves and I just love everything that he and his staff — both Coach Seals and Coach English — had to say about this program that they have built," said Henderson. "I really like what I see with the student-athletes that we have coming back, along with our incoming class, and I believe we will have a team that Golden Hurricane fans can be proud of both on and off the court."

Henderson posted an overall 708-172 (.805) record in 25 years as a prep head coach in Texas, and was named the 2012 MaxPreps National Coach of the Year while at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas. At Marcus, Henderson's teams compiled a three-year record of 114-6 and won Class 5A state titles in 2011 and 2012 with 39-1 and 39-2 records, respectively. Those two teams, led by current Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart, were named the MaxPreps High School National Champions.

Henderson, who spent the 2012-13 season as the head coach at Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Texas, combined to win four state championships and made seven semifinal appearances in the state tournament.

Throughout his career, Henderson garnered several coaching awards, and was a finalist for Naismith National High School Coach of the Year. He was also named TABC Texas Coach of the Year, Texas Sportswriters Coach of the Year and Southwest United States Coach of the Year.

He began his head coaching career at Liberty Hill High School near Austin, Texas, in 1988, and moved on to Peaster High School in 1993. Henderson led Peaster HS to state titles in 1999 and 2000. He became the head coach at Marcus HS in 2009, before accepting the head coaching position at Duncanville.

Henderson earned a bachelor's in history and physical education, and a master's in education, both from Austin College. He and his wife, Anna, have two children: Maddie and Sophie.
