GREENVILLE, N.C. – The University of Tulsa Softball Team claimed their first American Athletic Conference regular season title and first since the 2014 season as they capped off the series sweep of East Carolina with a 2-0 shutout win on Sunday afternoon. The Hurricane (36-13 Overall, 14-1 The American) won their 10th consecutive game to secure the outright regular season crown and top-seed in the upcoming conference tournament with their fourth sweep of a league opponent.

The regular season title marks the sixth in program history and sixth under 12th-year Head Coach John Bargfeldt, who owns a 459-221-1 overall record and a 35-16 mark in The American since joining the league in 2015.

Madison Higley and Haley Meinen picked up the combined shutout for Tulsa in the circle as Higley allowed two hits in 2.0 innings pitched during her seventh start of the season before being replaced by Meinen in the bottom of the third. The sophomore tossed 5.0 innings of relief, striking out three on her way to moving to 6-1 on the year.

Meinen and the Tulsa defense worked around a pair of base runners in the final frame after a two-out single put one in scoring position before a groundout to Maggie Withee at third base ended the threat.

Tori Stafford put the Hurricane on the board with a solo-shot to left field to open up the second inning, her fourth of the season and 17th RBI.

Shelby Estocado put together a multi-hit performance on a two of three showing at the plate, picking up her first of the day after a Shannon Hughes double to open the fifth put runners at the corners with no outs. Julia Hollingsworth followed with a sacrifice fly to right field that brought in Hughes to bring the score to 2-0.

Tulsa wraps up regular season conference play with a three-game series against UCF, beginning with game one on Friday at 5 p.m. before finishing up with Senior Day on Sunday at noon.
