Junior pitcher Emily Watson was named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the eighth time this season after helping Tulsa claim the outright regular season league title with a sweep of East Carolina on the road over the weekend.
Watson (Edmond, Okla.) tossed her first career no-hitter and the first for Tulsa since Aimee Creger held Middle Tennessee without in a five-inning win on April 26, 2014. The right-hander struck out seven batters in the 12-0 game one win in five, facing just one batter over the minimum as she picked up her 20th shutout of her career and 11th of the season. In the series-clinching game two win, Watson threw all 12 innings and struck out 14.
On the season, Watson is just shy of 300 strikeouts with 296, ranking third in the NCAA in the category while ranking third in shutouts, fourth in wins and ninth in ERA.
The Hurricane return to the diamond this weekend as they are set to host UCF for a three-game series at the Collins Family Softball Complex. Game one is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. with the series wrapping up on Sunday with Senior Day at noon.
