Due to poor race conditions due to flooding and weather, Tulsa has not raced competitively for more than a month, since racing at the Knecht Cup on April 9. It will be the second time this season that the Hurricane women has raced at Benderson Park, where Tulsa turned in a solid performance at the Sunshine State Invitational.
"It's been a tough season with the flooding on our river, but I think our team has really risen to the occasion in terms of training," said Tulsa head Coach Kevin Harris. "We had solid racing the last time we at Benderson Park, and we're hoping to better our event finishes from the last two years. There are a lot of quality teams in the American Athletic Conference, and there will be tough competition in all the events."
A year ago, the Hurricane finished with a second-place score of 183 points, trailing UCF's 213 total score. Tulsa won the 2nd Varsity Four and finished second in the Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and the 3rd Varsity Eight at the 2016 American Championship.
In addition to Tulsa and UCF, other teams competing for the 2017 conference crown and seeking the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship are UConn, SMU, Temple, Sacramento State and San Diego State.
