Tulsa Men’s Track Team Leads American Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships After Friday’s Opening Day

Houston, Texas –– The Tulsa men's track team collected 26 points and sits in first-place following two events on the opening day of the American Athletic Conference Championship Friday at the University of Houston.

Tulsa's 26 points came from one first-place performance and two second-place finishes on Friday. The Hurricane took home first and second in the men's 10,000 meters with Henry Pearce finishing first in 31:21.90 and Adam Roderique taking second with a time of 31:34.52. Freshman Aleks Rapp placed second in the men's hammer throw with a personal-best of 59.09m.

Tulsa's one-two finish in the 10,000m marked the third straight year that Hurricane runners finished in first- and second-place at The American Championships in the 10,000m event.

Nicole Lee finished in sixth-place in the 10,000m with a time of 36:10.27, as she picked up two points for the Hurricane women on Friday.

The Hurricane had three athletes advance to Sunday's final in the 800-meter run as Grey Howard and Robert Tully advanced to the men's finals with the fifth- and sixth-best times in preliminary races today. Howard finished with a time of 1:52.11 and Tully clocked a time of 1:52.21, advancing to Sunday's 800m finals.

For the women, Cydney Fogle advanced to the finals of the 800m after finishing the prelims in 8^th place with a time of 1:01.72.

Competition continues on Saturday with the first event beginning at 1:30 p.m.
