Scott Takes First in 10,000-Meters at NCAA West Preliminaries

AUSTIN, Texas. – The University of Tulsa's Marc Scott took first place in the 10,000-meter run on Thursday at the NCAA West Preliminaries at Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas while women's sprinter Aaliyah Birmingham qualified for the quarterfinals in the 100-meter dash.
Scott's run of 29:50.67 netted the senior a first-place finish in the 10,000-meter, overtaking first place with 400-meters to go en route to the win. Teammate Luke Traynor advanced to the NCAA Championships in the event as well, posting a run of 29:54.31 as he finished fourth.
Birmingham advanced to the quarterfinals with a 20th-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a new personal-best time of 11.35, breaking her previous best of 11.49 that ranked second all-time at Tulsa heading into today. Birmingham will compete in the quarterfinals of the event tomorrow at 6 p.m. and again on Saturday at 9:25 p.m. as part of the Hurricane 4x400-meter relay team.
Bailey Stewart finished 40th in the men's 400-meter dash with a run of 47.96.
The NCAA West Preliminaries will continue Friday through Saturday.
