Head Coach Kevin Harris sat down with Bruce Howard to discuss the 2016-17 season.  

Here are some highlights from the season:
 

Lightweight 4+ and Lightweight 8+ Compete at IRA National Championship

The Tulsa Lightweight 4+ earned a seventh-place finish in the Grand Final, while the Lightweight 8+ finished second in the Petite Final at the 2017 IRA National Championship Regatta at Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif.

Lindsey Smith, Abigail Elggren, Lindsay Crute, Stephanie Call and Nichole Backus raced the Four to a seventh-place time of 7:54.74, while Stanford (7:20.91) earned the top slot.

In the Lightweight 8+, Sam Barber, Jennifer Casson, Sophia Camara, Julia Herrel, Amy Pitzel, Sydney Pirkle, Madeline Oleksiak, Audrey Brown and Phoebe Mulligan posted a time of 6:56.60 in the Petite Final behind MIT (6:49.79).


 

Eight Tulsa Rowers Earn CRCA Scholar Athlete Awards

Eight Tulsa rowers were named as Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholar Athletes.  All student-athletes must be at least a sophomore, row in a minimum of 75-percent of the current spring races in an NCAA or IRA eligible boat, and have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher as of December 2016.

Among the honorees are seniors Lindsay Crute, Maria Gearing and Skylar Luttjehuizen, juniors Stephanie Call, Colleen Giesbrecht, Madeline Lyons and Hannah Vissers, and sophomore Audrey Brown.

Crute and Gearing were three-time honorees, while Giesbrecht, Luttjehuizen, Lyons and Vissers have each earned the honor twice, and Brown and Call were first-time recipients.


 

Tulsa Claims Second-Place Finish at The American Championship

The Tulsa women's rowing team finished in second-place at the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championship at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla. It was the third-straight, second-place performance for the Golden Hurricane at The American Championship.

UCF outdistanced Tulsa for the third consecutive season, as the Knights totaled 217 points, while winning all six races en route to claiming its third straight league title. Tulsa scored 189 points by winning five silver medals and capturing one bronze medal on the day.  

Tulsa placed second in the Varsity 4+, 2nd Varsity 4+, 3rd Varsity 4+, Varsity 8+ and 2nd Varsity 8+, and captured the bronze medal in the 3rd Varsity 8+.


 

Four Tulsa Rowers Earned American Athletic Conference Honors

Jennifer Casson and Hannah Vissers were tabbed to the American Athletic Conference all-conference first team, while Maria Gearing and Lauren Vander Hoeven picked up second-team accolades.  


 

Lightweight 8+ Earns Program-Best No. 4 Ranking

The Tulsa Lightweight 8+ earned the school's best ranking in the April 20, 2017 USRowing Collegiate Poll, coming in at No. 4.  TU had previously had a program-best No. 6 ranking multiple times throughout the years.


 

Four Named The American Boat of the Week

The Tulsa Varsity 4+ was named as the American Athletic Conference Boat of the Week on April 11.  The Varsity 4+ was honored as they earned a silver medal at the Knecht Cup on Lake Mercer in West Windsor Township, N.J.  


 

Varsity 4+ Captures Silver Medal at Knecht Cup

Tulsa's Varsity 4+ captured a silver medal on Sunday afternoon at the Knecht Cup on Mercer Lake in West Windsor Township, N.J.  The Lightweight 8+ finished just out of medal contention in fourth place, while the Lightweight 4+ was fifth in their Heat.


 

Fours Earn Silver Medals at Sunshine State Invitational

The Tulsa Varsity 4+ and 2nd Varsity 4+ both earned silver medals at the Sunshine State Invitational at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla., while the Varsity 8+ and 2nd Varsity 8+ both recorded fourth-place marks.

Lindsey Smith, Amy Pitzel, Julia Herrel, Madeline Oleksiak and Audrey Brown raced the Varsity 4+ to a second-best time of 7:35.2.  Alabama finished first in a time of 7:32.0, while UCF was third (7:40.1).  In the 2nd Varsity 4+, Eva Trabucco, Skylar Luttjehuizen, Lauren Turner, Jasmine Leheta and Taylah Eder posted a mark of 7:37.6.


 

Tulsa Battles Kansas State in a Duel

The Tulsa rowing team earned a win in the Varsity 8+, Varsity 4+ and 2nd Varsity 4+ over Kansas State in a duel at the J. Bird Sr. Shell Nest in Catoosa, Okla.  The Wildcats picked up top marks in the 2nd and 3rd Varsity 8+ boats.


 

TU Has Strong Showing at Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational

The Tulsa rowing team raced the Varsity 4+, 2nd Varsity 4+, Varsity 8+, 2nd Varsity 8+ and 3rd Varsity 8+ in the spring season opener at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational.  The Hurricane topped West Virginia in all five events, while all except the Varsity 8+ earned wins over Miami and all except the 2nd Varsity 8+ recorded finishes ahead of Tennessee.  The Varsity 4+ also picked up a win over Minnesota, while the Varsity 8+ topped Notre Dame.


 

Tulsa Signs Five to National Letters-of-Intent

Tulsa Head Rowing Coach Kevin Harris announced the five new student-athletes signed to The University of Tulsa during the November early signing period, including Caitlin Barry, Mikala Burns, Lucy Coleman, Paige Hallam and Summer Neary.


 

Hurricane Records Four First-Place Finishes at Tulsa Fall Invitational

The Tulsa women's rowing team earned four first-place finishes, including the Varsity 1x, Varsity 2-, Varsity 4+ and Varsity 4x, while five more boats finished in the top three at the Tulsa Fall Invitational on the Verdigris River in Catoosa, Okla.  


 

Collegiate 8+ Earns Gold, Four Captures Silver at Jayhawk Jamboree

Tulsa's Collegiate 8+ earned a gold medal, while the Collegiate 4+ captured a silver medal at the Jayhawk Jamboree at Burcham Park on the Kansas River in Lawrence, Kan.


 

Tulsa Earns Six Gold Medals and One Bronze Medal at Head of the Oklahoma

The Tulsa rowers won the Collegiate 1x, Open 2-, Lightweight 2x, Collegiate 4+, Open 4+ and Open 4x, while the Collegiate 8+ boat captured a bronze medal at the Head of the Oklahoma regatta on the Oklahoma River in Oklahoma City.
