Tulsa Advances Lightweight 4+ to Grand Final and Lightweight 8+ to Petite Final at IRA National Championship
6/3/2017 1:52:00 PM | Rowing
The Tulsa rowers advanced both the Lightweight 4+ and Lightweight 8+ boats to the Finals, which will be raced on Sunday, at the 2017 IRA National Championship Regatta at Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif.
Lindsey Smith, Abigail Elggren, Lindsay Crute, Stephanie Call and Nichole Backus raced the Four to a seventh-place time of 7:42.00 in today's Heat to advance to tomorrow's Grand Final.
"The Four had a good, solid row today," Head Coach of Lightweight Rowing Rodney Mott said. "We were right there with Princeton and Harvard-Radcliffe so we are going to see if we can find another level of racing tomorrow."
In the Lightweight 8+, Sam Barber, Jennifer Casson, Sophia Camara, Julia Herrel, Amy Pitzel, Sydney Pirkle, Madeline Oleksiak, Audrey Brown and Phoebe Mulligan turned in a fourth-place finish in a time of 6:49.19 in the Heat and a fourth-place mark of 6:48.1 in the Repechage to advance to the Petite Final.
"Today was not what we were planning for, coming up short of making our goal of the Grand Final in the Eight, but we are going to readjust our lineup and see what we can do tomorrow," Mott said.
