Tulsa’s Willie Wright is Nominee for the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®

NORTHBROOK, Ill. –– University of Tulsa junior offensive lineman Willie Wright was named as one of 146 nominees for the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team^®, one of the most prestigious off-the-field honors in college football.

Last year, Tulsa's Dane Evans was one of the 24 student-athletes named to the 2016 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team^®. This year, 22 team members, 11 from the FBS and 11 from the FCS, will be selected and announced in November.

Wright (6'3", 296), from Houston, Texas, is a two-year starter at right offensive tackle for the Golden Hurricane. He was part of a 2016 offensive line that paved the way for Tulsa to rush for 300+ yards in a school record eight games, while it was also an offense that ranked among the top teams in the NCAA for total offense (4^th), scoring (7^th), rushing (8^th) passing (30^th).

Wright has volunteered at Kendall-Whittier Elementary School, served as a mentor at Rogers Middle School and has spoke to students at Hawthorne Middle School and Marshall Elementary School. He has also participated in the Martin Luther King Day Parade, Tulsa's Shadow a Student-Athlete Day, made hospital visits to St. Francis Children's Hospital, has done volunteer work for the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma and Lift Up America.

During his career, Wright have been an active member of TU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the Association of Black Collegians and the Black Men's Initiative (BMI).

Since 1992, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team^®has brought together a select group of college football players from across the country to honor their dedication to volunteerism and enriching the lives of others. While players are often recognized for their accomplishments and achievements on game day, these student-athletes have made significant contributions to the greater good of society, inspiring future generations of young athletes and the larger college football community.
