DALLAS, Texas –– University of Tulsa senior offensive tackle Evan Plagg joins Golden Hurricane center Chandler Miller as preseason candidates on the 2017 Outland Trophy Watch List, as announced today by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA). The award is presented to the nation's most outstanding interior lineman by the FWAA.

Plagg, 6'3", 295-pounds, is a former walk-on athlete from Guthrie, Oklahoma, who plays left tackle for the Golden Hurricane.

Plagg has played in 35 career games and started 25 consecutive contests at left tackle before missing the Cincinnati game last year. He was a second-team American Athletic Conference selection in 2016, while helping pave the way for an offense that gained 300+ rushing yards in a school record eight games. The Hurricane also ranked fourth in the NCAA for total offense and eighth for rushing offense last year. Plagg graded over 90-percent in six games in the 2016 season.

The Outland Trophy is named after the late John Outland, an All-America lineman at Penn at the turn of the 20th century. The Outland Trophy winner is chosen from three finalists who are a part of the annual FWAA All-America Team.

The FWAA All-America Committee, after voting input from the entire membership, selects a 26-man first team and eventually the three Outland finalists. Committee members, then by individual ballot, select the winner. Only interior linemen on offense or defense are eligible for the award; ends are not eligible.
