Women’s Tennis Honored as ITA All-Academic Team

TEMPE, Ariz. — The University of Tulsa women's tennis squad was recognized on Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as an All-Academic Team after it posted a 3.307 GPA during the 2016-17 season. To be eligible for the award, teams must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
 
Additionally, Marcelina Cichon, Mahitha Dadireddy, Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner were recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes. It was the second straight year that Cichon and Dadireddy earned the honor, while Okalova and Ploner picked up their first ITA Scholar-Athlete awards.
 
Student-athletes must be a varsity letterwinner, have a GPA of at least 3.50 on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year and be enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters to be eligible for the honor.
 
The group helped TU to a 20-8 record last season and an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, marking the 11th consecutive postseason appearance for the program. Cichon recorded a 24-5 singles record, while Dadireddy (20-14) and Okalova (20-10) also topped 20 victories during the campaign. Ploner went 12-6 in her first season and earned 14 doubles victories, as well.
